Inspired by Senior Constable Ann Brimblecombe – who was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident in 2006 – the CARS program asks children to create a promotional poster or video skit promoting a safety message or slogan.

Senior Constable Brimblecombe was a pivotal figure in the community for her work with primary school children, and continues to inspire years later. In her honour, the Ann Brimblecombe Memorial Award is given to the competition winner.

Win $2,000 for your school

The winning entry with the best safety slogan will win $2000 for their school, as well as a ride in a police car (pending parental approval).

Teachers are encouraged to work with students in order to draw out their ideas on messages about safety, whether those messages are about the home, school or travelling.

Teachers should collate all student submissions (with student name, class and school written on the back) and send to the CARS Action Team before the competition closes each year. Video submissions should be placed on a USB and sealed in an envelope, with details written on the back.

The competition is open to all primary schools in north-eastern Victoria and southern New South Wales.

'Safety...Think It, Do It!'

CARS mascot Safety Sam helps to promote the ‘Safety… Think It, Do It!’ message that the program inspires. Students are encouraged to use Safety Sam’s image within their submissions, which can be downloaded here.

 Get your class involved

To help inspire the students, a representative of the police force will be available to visit every school to talk to students about safety. If your school would like to organise a visit, or if you would like to find out more about the CARS program, please contact:
