Manage your money with these free apps

Where does all your money go?

Wednesday, November 27, 2024 / Finance

It is great to check your account balance and pay bills quickly with the BankWAW app or pay with your digital wallet at checkout. It is also nice that there is a range of apps out there that can help you budget and manage your money.

Below are some examples of free apps and what they can do. We provide them as illustrations of how apps can help you improve your financial health. Please have a look around the app store, think of your specific needs, and try some of the apps available on the market to see which one(s) fit your needs best.

Some of these apps, such as Frollo or WeMoney, can automatically get information from BankWAW accounts and other financial institutions through Open Banking. If you want to link your BankWAW account(s) to an app that supports OpenBanking, you need to authorize data sharing using your customer number and a one-time password.

Other apps, such as Beem, depend on your account details or VISA card so you can make or receive payments directly in the app.

  1. Share the bills - Beem (iOS/Android)

Beem is a free app that allows you to split the bills with your family and friends, if they too have the Beem app. Enter the amount, add the people you are sharing with, and the app makes sure that everyone pays their share.

  1. Pay the bills - GetReminded (iOS/Android)

GetReminded keeps you on top of your bills and contracts from utilities, insurers, and all the other necessities in life. The app will remind you when a bill is due to make sure you don’t get penalties or when a contract expires so you can look around for a better deal.

  1. Get deals – WiseList (iOS/Android)

Want to organise your bills, meal prep and grocery shopping in one go? WiseList can help. This nifty little app helps you plan the food shopping, see when things are on special and even get notifications when your favourite items are on special.

  1. Debt management - WeMoney (iOS/Android)

WeMoney allows you to import your bank accounts, loans and other financial information. It helps you understand your financial health, track and reduce expenses, and pay down debt faster. It can also give you personalized offers to consolidate or refinance loans.

  1. Budget your money – MoneySmart (online)

MoneySmart offers an online calculator (and an Excel sheet if you prefer) that can be used offline to track and manage your spending.

  1. Manage money - Frollo (iOS/Android)

Frollo is similar to WeMoney, but focuses more on budgeting and financial well-being. It can combine data from different sources to classify your expenses and give you an overview of your income and expenditure, alert you to upcoming bills, and set a budget for different categories of expenses.

  1. Manage your tax - ATO (iOS/Android)

ATO have an app that can help you stay on top of your tax and super. For instance, it includes functions to track deductions, check employer super payments, and manage your tax account.

Knowing what you spend your money on, and whether you are spending more than is coming in or saving money instead, is key to financial health. Whether you use an app or an old-fashioned notebook, spending some time on your expenses and ongoing contracts can help to find savings and reach a longer-term financial goal.
